AI Speeds Up Hiring by 86%

Dan Nicholson

The advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in candidate sourcing has sparked conversations about its potential to revolutionize recruitment. But is it just hype? Can AI truly offer substantial benefits to the hiring process? Can AI find the best candidate—not just the best on paper but the best fit for the team or organization?

With HR professionals overwhelmingly optimistic about AI's impact on application processes, it's crucial to delve deeper into how AI is reshaping recruitment practices and what it means for employers and job seekers alike.

The Efficiency of AI Is Transforming Recruitment

AI candidate sourcing represents a transformative shift in recruitment, offering efficiency, speed, and improved quality of hires. The traditional approach of passively waiting for applications and resumes to trickle in is quickly becoming obsolete, as AI enables recruiters to analyze vast datasets to identify suitable candidates. Recruiters are trading the time that they would take to get through one resume for tech that can read 10,000 in the same time.

With AI eliminating the grunt work, there is an opportunity to rethink the role of hiring professionals and how to best use their skills, explains Amy Garefis, chief people officer at ZipRecruiter. “The faster you can write a job description and get it out, the faster you can make that human face-to-face connection on an interview,” she says.

Leveraging AI tools enables recruiters to allocate their time strategically, focusing on engaging with candidates and building relationships that enrich the hiring experience. Furthermore, with AI being able to better predict candidate suitability for a role based on patterns and trends in the data, people are getting hired faster, and job turnover is lower than that associated with traditional hiring models. A Deloitte study, for instance, found that companies using AI for hiring are filling jobs 68% faster. In essence, AI is helping to enable happier workplaces through its efficiency.

Collaboration Between AI and Human Expertise

Without a doubt, AI-driven tools streamline processes, relieve administrative burdens, and identify higher-quality candidates in less time than humans doing the same task. Yet looking ahead, the integration of AI into HR must aim to enhance efficiency and productivity without replacing human expertise

Concerns about bias persist, for instance. Humans have personal biases, so using an automated tool could potentially introduce new biases into any hiring process. Yet when AI is used thoughtfully, it can significantly impact workplace diversity. In fact, 68% of hiring professionals believe that incorporating AI into the recruiting process can help eliminate unintended bias, according to Elevatus.

The key lies in striking a balance between AI-driven efficiency and human involvement. At ZipRecruiter, for instance, Garefis says before any part of the hiring process is fully automated, the team has to feel comfortable about replacing work that was previously done by people. Yet, she expands, that AI is here to stay, and building something new is an opportunity to do better. “We have the advantage of starting from scratch and building systems and making sure that the AI that we build or use does as much as we can—and potentially more—to eliminate bias from a process,” says Garefis.

By continually refining AI algorithms and emphasizing the collaboration between AI and human judgment, organizations can effectively navigate the evolving landscape of recruitment. Future advancements in AI are expected to focus on data-driven decision-making to improve the quality of hires and optimize recruitment strategies.

Conclusion

As AI continues to reshape recruitment, it's essential to recognize its potential benefits and pitfalls. AI offers unparalleled efficiency and fairness, but it must be complemented by human judgment. By embracing AI while upholding ethical standards, organizations can optimize their recruitment processes and foster a more inclusive workforce.

The future of hiring lies in the symbiotic relationship between AI and human expertise, ensuring that the recruitment landscape evolves to meet the needs of both employers and job seekers alike, emphasizes Teuila Hanson, chief people officer at LinkedIn. “As AI continues to evolve in the workplace,” she says, “let’s not forget that it’s more important than ever for business and talent leaders to reinforce that the future of work is still human.”
