Shopify & Amazon Collaborate: The "Buy with Prime" Integration

Shopify merchants can now tap into Amazon's coveted "Buy with Prime" feature. The collaboration allows online shoppers to make purchases using their Amazon wallet during the Shopify checkout process. Users will also enjoy Amazon's speedy, free delivery and streamlined returns via its fulfillment network.

Historical Perspective

Historically positioned as a significant contender to Amazon, Shopify is renowned for providing merchants a diverse range of e-commerce tools. This includes hosting online storefronts, inventory management, payment processing, and more. The Amazon integration is especially surprising given Shopify's stance just a year prior, which cautioned its merchants against using Amazon's Buy with Prime.

In a recent statement, Shopify highlighted its mission: “We’re on a mission to make commerce better for everyone. That means making sure our merchants are able to sell everywhere.”

The Integration App

Amazon will be releasing a dedicated app for U.S. Shopify merchants who are part of Amazon’s fulfillment network. This app will ensure seamless integration of the Buy with Prime feature into Shopify Checkout. This app is designed to be adaptive, incorporating existing Shopify settings and third-party app integrations to ensure that customers continue to enjoy a delivery experience similar to that on Amazon.com.

Post-Integration Features

Once the app is installed, merchants can select specific products from their Amazon inventory for inclusion under the Buy with Prime feature on Shopify. This integration will be harmonious, reflecting the merchant’s existing Shopify store theme. At the checkout phase, Amazon Pay will emerge as a viable payment alternative.

The announcement was met with a buoyant market response, as evidenced by a 4% surge in Shopify’s stock, which further rose by 6% the following morning.
